What is EVM?

Jaipur| EVMs are electronic voting machines that enable the voter with a button for each choice of candidates. EVM or Electronic Voting Machine is the main resource of the election process in today’s time. E.V.M is the modern day voting box, in which the voter of India registers his/her invaluable vote.

Before EVMs in India, elections were held by putting slips in the ballot box, which was comparatively inefficient and time taking . Also it required the use of a lot of paper. Due to which, in 2013, as per the the election reform policy mentioned in the constitution, the Central government made EVM a part of the election process.

Due to the Electronic Voting Machine, voters can now directly register their vote by pressing the button next to the name and party symbol of their favorite candidate. Voters also have the facility of NOTA ( None Of The Above) button at the bottom of this machine. The purpose of this button is when the voter does not like any representative he can register his protest by pressing this button.
