Jagat Singh Negi was born on February 2, 1957, in Kalpa. Jagat Singh Negi has completed his studies at DAV College Chandigarh and Punjab University. Jagat Singh Negi is a lawyer by profession. After success in advocacy, Negi tried his hand at politics and won his first election in the year 1995. On May 27, 1995, during the by-election in Kinnaur, he reached the assembly for the first time by winning. After this, in June 2003, in the year 2012, and in the year 2017 also, he reached the assembly after winning as an MLA. In the year 2005, Jagat Singh Negi also held the post of Chief Parliamentary Secretary. Jagat Singh Negi has also been the chairman of the subordinate legislative committee. Prior to this, Jagat Singh Negi has also been the Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from March 12, 2013, to December 21, 2017. Jagat Singh Negi’s father Gyan Singh Negi was also an MLA from the Kinnaur seat.
From the year 1987 to the year 1992, he was also the chairman of Panchayat Samiti Pooh. Cabinet Minister Jagat Singh Negi also served on the post of Vice President of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation in the year 1996.
Jagat Singh Negi, a lawyer by profession, was the President of the District Kinnaur Bar Association from 1980 to 1995. Along with this, he also served as the President of the District Youth Congress Committee during this period. From the year 1996 to the year 2011, he was the Vice President of the Himachal Congress Committee. Jagat Singh Negi has also been the President of Himachal Pradesh Football Association. In the Congress government formed in 2023, Jagat Singh Negi got the charge of Horticulture and Tribal Development and Revenue Minister.
