Jaipur: Draupadi Murmu is the present President of India. Draupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of the country on 25 July 2022. Draupadi Murmu is the first President of the country who comes from the tribal community. Apart from this, Draupadi Murmu is also the youngest President till date. Draupadi Murmu is the first and only President of the country so far to be born after independence. Draupadi Murmu is serving as the second woman President of the country after former President of India Pratibha Patil. Murmu is the second citizen of Odisha to be elected as the President of the country.
Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in a Santhal family in Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. His father’s name was Biranchi Narayan Tudu. Murmu’s family was already active in politics. Both his grandfather and his father were headmen of their village. Draupadi Murmu started her professional life as a teacher. After that she gradually entered politics.
Draupadi Murmu started her political career in the year 1997 by winning the councilor election of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat.
He has served as the Vice President of the Scheduled Tribes Morcha of the BJP. Along with this, she has also been the National Executive Member of BJP’s Adivasi Morcha.
Draupadi Murmu won twice on a BJP ticket in 2000 and 2009 from the Rairangpur seat in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and became MLA. Draupadi Murmu was made the minister for commerce, transport, and later for fisheries and animal resources between 2000 and 2004 in Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal and BJP coalition government in Odisha.
Draupadi Murmu was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand in the year 2015 and till the year 2021, she served as the Governor of Jharkhand. The title of becoming the first woman governor of Jharkhand was also named after Draupadi Murmu. Also she is the first tribal to become the governor of any Indian state.
