Jaipur:- Arvind Kejriwal is currently the Chief Minister of Delhi. Along with this, Kejriwal is also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Arvind Kejriwal was born on 16 August 1968 in Hisar, Haryana. Kejriwal earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1989. Joined the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in 1992 and was posted in the office of the Commissioner of Income Tax in Delhi. In 2000, he retired from his state service and joined “Parivartan”, a civil movement working to ensure a transparent and accountable administration. Along with Aruna Roy, Gore Lal Manishi and many others, he started the campaign for the “Right to Information Act”, which quickly became a silent social movement, the Right to Information Act was passed in Delhi in 2001 and eventually At the national level, the Indian Parliament passed the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005.
On 2 October 2012, Arvind Kejriwal made his formal political debut, wearing the Gandhi cap, now known as the “Anna cap”. He wrote on the cap, “I am a common man.” He also released the vision paper of his future political party on 2 October 2012 itself. After this, he formed the “Aam Aadmi Party” on 26 November 2012. Many members of the Lokpal movement were also involved with him in this formation.
After this, in the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal contested from the New Delhi seat where he had a direct fight with Sheila Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi for 15 consecutive years. He defeated three-time Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit by 25864 votes from New Delhi Assembly seat. The Aam Aadmi Party entered the politics of Delhi with a bang. The Aam Aadmi Party created a stir in state politics by winning 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly elections.
In the February 2015 elections under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, his party won a record 67 out of 70 seats, winning an overwhelming majority. On 14 February 2015, Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi for the second time.
After this, Arvind Kejriwal’s party won an absolute majority with 62 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections held in 2020 and Arvind Kejriwal was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time.
