Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma joins BJP from Congress

Jaipur: Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Chief Minister of Assam. He waited a long time to reach this position. Himanta Biswa Sarma, born in Jorhat, Assam, was initially a lawyer, but felt that the passion for politics stopped directly after going to the post of CM. Himanta started his political career with the Congress. He has been an MLA from Jalukbari assembly constituency as a Congress member from 2001 to 2015. Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned from all departments of the Congress party on 21 July 2014 after political differences with former chief minister Tarun Gogoi in the year 2014. A year later, he joined the BJP. After winning the assembly elections in the year 2016, he became a cabinet minister. He was allotted portfolios like Finance, Health and Family Welfare, Education, Planning and Development, Tourism, Pensions and Public Grievances in the Sonowal government.
Himanta Biswa Sarma remained active in student politics during his student life. He became the General Secretary of Cotton College Guwahati in 1991-92. After obtaining a degree in law, he practiced in the Gauhati High Court for 5 years. In May 2001, he became MLA for the first time from Jalukbari seat. Himanta Biswa Sarma has become MLA for the fifth consecutive time from this seat. This time he has won with a bumper margin of 1 lakh 1,911 votes. Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been associated with sports. He has been the President of Assam Badminton Association and Vice President of Assam Cricket Association. In the year 2017, he unanimously became the President of the Badminton Association of India.
In the 2016 assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Himanta was considered to have a major role in making the BJP win in Assam. Along with this, his leadership was also appreciated in handling the anti-CAA protests in the state and the situation in Corona. Immediately after winning the Assam assembly elections, the BJP made Himanta Biswa Sarma the president of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). After this, he made a big contribution in bringing BJP to power in many states of the Northeast. Himanta Biswa Sarma is the leader of the culture of Assam. He performs traditional dance with the people on the platforms. Work on their grassroots issues. Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently the Chief Minister of Assam after the formation of the BJP government in Assam in the year 2021. He took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam on 10 May 2021.
