Jaganmohan Reddy was born in Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh in the year 1972 in a family related to politics. His father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy also used to be a politician. Jaganmohan Reddy started his political career in the year 2004 and was then associated with the Congress. In the year 2009 elections, he contested the Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the Congress and won. In 2011, after separating from the Congress Party, he established the YSR Congress Party.

The full name of this party is Yuvajan Sramika Rythu Congress. In the 2014 assembly elections, his party could get only 67 out of 175 seats. In the Andhra Pradesh elections held in the year 2019, his party performed very well and won 150 out of 175 seats. Not only this, his party won 22 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Jagan Mohan Reddy was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 30 May 2019.
