MK. Stalin is one of the veteran leaders of Tamil Nadu. His full name is Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin. Stalin was born on 1 March 1953 in Tamil Nadu to Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, a prominent Dravidian leader and five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and his second wife, Dayalu Ammal. Stalin was named as Karunanidhi’s successor. MK. Stalin is the working president of the DMK party. MK Stalin’s political career began at the age of 14, campaigning for his party DMK in 1967. In 1973 he was elected to the General Committee of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). In 1984, he was appointed as the secretary of the youth wing of the party. He contested and lost the assembly elections from Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai. In 1989 he was elected as the MLA of Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai. He won against AIADMK’s Thambidurai by a large margin and made his debut in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Later in the year 1996, he was appointed Mayor of Chennai. Due to this, he started being recognized as a good leader. On 29 May 2009, Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala appointed him as the first Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In the Tamil Nadu assembly elections held in 2021, DMK won 159 out of total 234 seats and M.K. Stalin became the 8th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
