Jaipur: The festival of Janmashtami is a special festival of Hindu religion. Lord Shri Krishna was born on this day. Therefore this festival is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. Today this festival is being celebrated all over the country. It is believed that Shri Krishna was born on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Shri Krishna is also considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This festival is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm throughout the country. On the holy festival of Janmashtami, people keep fast for the whole day and celebrate the birthday of Kanha ji. On this day, Lord Shri Krishna is born at 12 o’clock in all the temples. On this day, various types of dishes including Panchamrit, Panjiri, Paag, Sithora are offered to Shri Krishna in homes. During Shri Krishna Janmashtami, at many places. Grand fairs are organized. Very spectacular fairs are organized at many places like Vrindavan, Mathura, Dwarka, Teghra (Bihar) etc. This fair lasts for several days and many pandals are made and in these, events related to the life of Lord Shri Krishna are made in the form of tableaux through idols. The whole atmosphere becomes black. Everywhere only the character of Shri Krishna is praised. Krishna’s pastimes are shown in Raas Leela.
There is also a tradition of organizing Dahi-Handi competition on the holy festival of Janmashtami. Children from all over the world also participate in this competition. A pot filled with buttermilk, curd etc. is hung above with the help of a rope and then Bal-Govindas try to break the pot. The participants participating in this competition break this pot by making big towers. And the participant who is successful in breaking this pot is declared the winner. In the Dahi-Handi competition, the winning team is also honored with a prize.
This festival is also special for children. Children can take inspiration from the life of Shri Krishna. By following his principles and teachings, children can make their lives excellent. On this day special enthusiasm is also seen in children. Children of Digital Bal Mela also participate in the competitions organized on this day.
