National Technology Day is celebrated every year on 11 May in India.
Technology has made a major contribution to the development of India.
Programs are organized on the occasion of Technology Day in government institutions, schools and colleges across the country.
This day is special to recognize the important role played by engineers and scientists in the development of the country and to give them credit for it.
On this day, India successfully tested a nuclear bomb in Pokhran on May 11, 1998. The nuclear missile was tested at the Indian Service’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan.
This was the second test conducted after Operation ‘Smiling Buddha’ at Pokhran in May 1974. Which was led by the then President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
On the same day, India conducted successful test firing of Trishul missile and tested the first indigenous aircraft Hans III.
This day was celebrated for the first time on May 11, 1999.
Its purpose is to commemorate the scientific and technological achievements of Indian scientists and engineers. Theme of National Industry Day for the year 2024:— “Inspire young minds to innovate, from schools to startups.”
This day was named by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Every year the Indian Technological Development Board celebrates this day by honoring individuals with National Awards for their contributions to science and technology in India.
