The annual celebration of African independence, sovereign rule and identity is known as African Liberation Day or Africa Day. This day serves as the founding day of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963. In 1958, Accra, the capital of Ghana, hosted the first remembrance celebration of African Liberation Day. The main goal of the celebration is to draw attention to the damage that colonialism has caused to the continent of Africa and African unity as a whole. Africa Day is celebrated on May 25 to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity. Which was later changed to the African Union.
On this day in 1963, 30 leaders of 32 independent African states signed a charter at Adir Baba, Ethiopia.
Africa is the second largest continent in the world and the latest discoveries and studies show that it was also considered the land of origin of our species before humans originated in Europe.
