Know about national statistics day.
Paras Mali.
National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June in our country to create public awareness about the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy making. It is very difficult to carry out any major survey, research and evaluation without statistics, so National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June to create awareness about the importance of statistics. Its main objective is to make people aware of the importance of statistics in everyday life and the process of planning and development.
How it started
Actually, June 29 is the birthday of eminent statistician late Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who made significant contributions to statistics. Keeping this in mind, in 2007, on the occasion of his birth anniversary, it was decided to celebrate June 29 every year as National Statistics Day. Which continues even today.
Some important things related to the life of Mahalanobis
Mahalanobis was born on 29 June 1893 in Kolkata. He did his honours in Physics from Presidency College, Kolkata and went to London for higher education. Mahalanobis is mainly remembered for the sample survey developed by him. Under this method, samples taken from a large population are included in the survey and then detailed plans are shaped based on the findings obtained from it. Mahalanobis developed this method from the data of jute crop grown on a certain land area and explained how production can be increased. On this occasion, many programs are organized across the country. During the program, those who have made a significant contribution in the field of statistics are honored with special awards.
