International Day of Justice is celebrated on July 17, an important milestone in the pursuit of justice and accountability around the world. The day commemorates the adoption of the Statute of Rome, the treaty that established the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC is an important institution that prosecutes individuals responsible for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Its existence ensures that those who commit heinous crimes are held accountable regardless of their status or location.

International Day of Justice is a reminder that justice is a fundamental human right. It emphasizes the importance of promoting accountability, protecting the rights of victims, and upholding the rule of law.

As we celebrate this day, we recognize the progress made in international justice and acknowledge the challenges that remain. Let us reaffirm our commitment to fighting impunity and promoting a culture of accountability around the world.

Together, we can build a world where justice prevails and human rights are universally respected. History of International Justice:

The concept of international justice dates back to World War I, but it was not until the Nuremberg trials in 1945-1946 that the idea gained momentum. The Nuremberg trials set a precedent for holding individuals accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Over the next decades, the international community continued to develop the concept of international justice, resulting in the establishment of ad hoc tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda in the 1990s. The Treaty of Rome, adopted in 1998, marked an important milestone in the history of international justice, as it established the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a permanent institution to prosecute individuals for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Since its inception, the ICC has investigated and prosecuted numerous cases, strengthening its role as an important component of the international justice system.
