World Kindness Day, celebrated on November 13, promotes inspiring acts of goodwill and compassion, urging all of us to make the world a better place by one small act of kindness at a time. Kindness is a universal language that connects people from all walks of life. The day serves as a reminder that, despite our differences, we can all contribute to making the world a better place. World Kindness Day was started in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement organization, which was founded at the 1997 Tokyo Conference by kindness organizations around the world. In 2019, the organization was registered as an official NGO under Swiss law. Currently, the World Kindness Movement includes more than 28 nations that are not affiliated with any religion or political movement. The World Kindness Movement first started celebrating World Kindness Day. The first World Kindness Day was celebrated on 13 November 1998. Many other institutions and associations from around the world including India, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Thailand also assembled for this conference with the aim of promoting kindness in society. This event formed the initial form of the World Kindness Movement. A written declaration of its establishment was also made which stated that the pledge to join together to create a kinder and more compassionate world. It is an annual event celebrated around the world on 13 November. The day emphasizes the importance of performing acts of kindness, no matter how small, and promotes a culture of empathy and thoughtfulness in everyday life. Kindness helps bridge the gap between caste, religion, politics and culture. On this day people do volunteer work, help the needy and organize charity events, etc.
