What is World Animal Day?
World Animal Day 2023 is observed every year on the 4th of October. Its purpose is to promote the rights of animals and raise the standard of animal welfare across the world. On World Animal Day, events are organized by community and interest groups, businesses, and individuals to educate people about animal welfare related issues.
Who started World Animal Day?
The idea for World Animal Day came from a German writer, publisher, and animal rights activist called Heinrich Zimmerman, who organized the first such event in Berlin in 1925.
Over 5,000 people attended the first World Animal Day event.Although the first World Animal Day was held in March, Zimmerman intended the event to take place on the 4th of October, the feast day of St. Francis .
