Jaipur: Manohar Lal Khattar was born on 5 May 1954 in a Khatri family in Nindana village of Rohtak district in the state of Haryana, India. His family is one of those families who left Pakistan and settled in India after the partition of India-Pakistan.
Manohar Lal Khattar, popularly known as Headmaster among his friends, first joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1977 and has been a part of the Sangh for the last 40 years and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the last 20 years.
In the year 2002, he was given the responsibility of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and in the year 2004, he was given the responsibility of elections in 12 states including Delhi and Rajasthan. After that he was made the Regional Organization General Secretary of Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh.
After serving in the Sangh, Manohar Lal Khattar joined the BJP in the year 1994 and was the General Secretary of BJP Haryana from 2000 to 2014. Presently also he is a member of BJP National Executive Committee and comes one of the closest people of Prime Minister Modi. He first contested from Karnal assembly constituency in the year 2014 and won. In this assembly election, BJP got 45 seats while INLD came second with 19 seats. Congress, which has been ruling the state for the last decade, came third with 15 seats. Had to be satisfied with the numbers.
He was appointed as the Chief Minister of Haryana on 26 October 2014 only after a massive victory in the elections. He was sworn in as the 10th Chief Minister of Haryana on 26 October 2014 as the first non-Jat leader after a long term of 18 years. The Bharatiya Janata Party led by Manohar Lal Khattar failed to get a majority in the 2019 assembly elections, forcing them to seek support from Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Party. After this support, on 27 October 2019, Khattar took oath as the Chief Minister again.
