Eva Bhardwaj, selected child MLA from Kinnaur constituency of Himachal Pradesh, raised the major problem of her area in the House. The occasion was the historic Vidhansabha Baal Satra held on 12th June, in which 68 child legislators carried the proceedings of the House . Question Hour and Rule 324 were conducted by a total of 28 boys and 40 girls sitting in the Vidhansabha Bhawan..
In the session, under rule 324, child legislator Eva was given an opportunity to present her suggestion. She placed before the House the issue of landslides caused by hydro-power projects in her constituency Kinnaur. She told that Kinnaur is a hilly area with rivers , in such a situation the government has given permission for many small and big hydro power projects. When these projects are set up, the mountains are heavily cut, due to which either landslides occur or the mountains collapse.
For this it was suggested to the government that the government should set up a solar power project in the state and subsidy should be provided for the same . The government should take over the already running hydro power project and take responsibility for its maintenance, because private organizations earn profit from them but they do not pay any attention to the impact of these projects on the public.
Priya Sharma, co-founder of the Digital Baal Mela, told that the voices of the children before this assembly, have resonated in Rajasthan as well. Yes, on November 14, 2021, Rajasthan became the first state to witness the Baal Satra . In this children’s session, 200 child legislators from all over the country ran the House under the proceedings of Question Hour and Zero Hour. Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla came as the chief guest in this historic children’s session held in the Vidhansabha Bhavan, and in his address he also gave the children an opportunity to come to the Lok Sabha.
