Why is International Mother Language Day celebrated?
The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of their language around the world.
When did this start? ,
On 17 November 1999, at the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), it was decided to celebrate 21 February as International Mother Language Day. The idea of celebrating it was first introduced by Bangladesh.
Languages of India –
India is a country of diverse culture and language. According to the 1961 census, 1652 languages are spoken in India. Hindi is the language spoken the most in our country and it has got the status of official language.
