Know about International Friendship Day.
Child writer Kashish.
Man gets family relationships with birth. We get all these relationships of parents, siblings with birth. But friendship is a relationship that man chooses himself. Friendship is a very sacred relationship. A true friend is the one who saves us from going on the wrong path and stands with us like a strong pillar in bad times.
Even in ancient times, great examples of friendship of Krishna and Sudama and Karna and Duryodhana are seen. The relationship of friendship is really very special. To make this special relationship even more special, International Friendship Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of August.
Today’s world is a complex place. Because of this, the United Nations wants to remind all the great and good people of the world by celebrating International Friendship Day in 2011!
However, International Friendship Day started about a hundred years ago. Originally established by Hallmark in 1919, it was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending cards to each other. But, by the 1940s, the market waned and, eventually, it was discontinued altogether.
However, in 1998, Winnie the Pooh was named the United Nations’ Ambassador of World Friendship. In April 2011, the United Nations officially recognized July 30 as International Friendship Day, even though many countries celebrate the day on the first Sunday in August. However, the idea of a day to honor friendship was adopted by many countries in Asia where reserving a day to celebrate friendship and exchange gifts between friends remains a popular custom.
According to the United Nations, International Day of Friendship can help promote peace and social harmony among people. “Our world is facing many challenges, crises and forces of division – such as poverty, violence and human rights abuses – and many others – that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the people of the world. To confront those crises and challenges, their root causes must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared sense of human solidarity that takes many forms – the simplest of which is friendship.
The theme of International Day of Friendship for the year 2024 is:- “Embracing Diversity, Fostering Unity”.
Through friendship – by forging bonds of cordiality and developing strong ties of trust – we can contribute to the fundamental changes that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and instill passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good,” according to the United Nations.
