Sumedhanand Saraswati was born on 1 October 1951 in Baland, Rohtak. He had religious inclinations since childhood. In pursuit of Sanskrit studies, he left home in 1972, devoting eight years to teaching. Sumedhanand has obtained the degree of Darshanacharya and MA in Sanskrit. He has studied from Dayanand Sanskrit College, Dinanagar, Punjab and Meerut University, Meerut. In 1984, he took ‘Diksha’ from Swami Sarvanandji and adopted a celibate life as a ‘Sanyasi’. Sumedhanand Saraswati’s political career started with social activism, due to which he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1989. He was very active in the movements advocating “Save Cow” and “Prohibition of Liquor”, and he actively participated in the JP movement. Swami Sumedhanand was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2014. In 2019, he became a Lok Sabha MP for the second time. Apart from this, he has also played a role in various political positions, such as being a member of the Standing Committee on Human Resource Development since 2014. And since 2014, he is a member of the Ethics Committee, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Agriculture, Hindi Advisory Committee, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
