According to the World Health Organization, asthma is a chronic disease, which can affect both children and adults.
The airways of the person suffering from this disease shrink. Due to which they start swelling.
As a result, people with asthma may experience coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and difficulty sleeping.
In such a situation, “World Asthma Day” is celebrated to focus people’s attention towards this disease.
Celebrating World Asthma Day started in the year 1993.
This day was celebrated for the first time by the ‘Global Initiative for Asthma’ in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
Later in the year 1998, Asthma Day program was organized in more than 35 countries.
The problem of asthma has been increasing rapidly for some time.
According to WHO, asthma is generally ignored and not treated properly.
The purpose of celebrating this day, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is to raise awareness of asthma globally and improve care for people suffering from this disease around the world! The theme of World Asthma Day in 2024 by the Global Initiative for Asthma is Empowering Asthma Education.
