World Tourism Day highlights the importance of tourism for promoting cultural, economic development and sustainable development.
World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on 27 September. The purpose of this day is to make people aware of the social, cultural, political, and economic importance of tourism. Along with this, the aim is to create awareness about tourism among the people around the world and inspire them for it. Tourism is the medium through which people get a chance to connect and know different cultures. In 2019, World Tourism Day was celebrated in Delhi. During this time, India hosted World Tourism Day for the first time due to its geographical features. Many places are considered famous to visit in India and among them Taj Mahal is called the seventh wonder of the world, so this country can offer tourists various cuisines, adventure places, history, languages etc. In 1970, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) decided to celebrate it as a day in its third session in Spain. UNWTO decided to start World Tourism Day at the end of September 1979. It was celebrated for the first time on 27 September 1980. Since then we celebrate this day every year on 27 September
