On June 12, Himachal Pradesh witnessed a historic Children’s Session presided over by the Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. For this special session, 68 children were selected from across the country, the process of which lasted for a total of three months. “Child representatives” were seen raising their voice on child issues in Shimla’s Vidhansabha Bhavan. Kashish, studying in Government Senior Secondary School, Lana Cheta, was also selected for this session in which she was seen playing the role of opposition MLA.
One of the most important things that were raised by Kashish in the House was the ‘Participation of women in politics’. Keeping this matter in a cool and calm manner, she said that – “Today, without discussing one issue, I would like to talk about rights, opportunities, equality, and representation. Do you know what is the special feature of this House today? Where normally only one woman MLA is seen in this house representing 30 lakh women of the state, today there are 40 female child members in this house. This shows how willing women are to enter politics. But due to the entrenched inequalities of our society , they are prevented from coming. In such a situation, the government now needs to make efforts to bring women into politics. If the government is not successful in providing representation to 50 percent of the state’s population, then the rights, equality, and sovereignty provided by our constitution cannot be fully achieved
In this session, Chief Minister of the State Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu , and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Mr. Harivansh Singh attended the session. The special feature of this session was that the children played the role of Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker and MLAs and conducted the assembly for a day.
