Reason for celebrating Mahashivratri? ,
Mahashivaratri is a major festival for Inidans. It is the main festival of Lord Shiva. Mahashivratri festival is celebrated on Magh Phagun Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. It is believed that the creation started from this day. According to mythology, the creation started on this day with the rise of Agnilinga (which is the giant form of Mahadev). Lord Shiva was married to Goddess Parvati on this day. Lord Shiva and his wife Goddess Parvati are worshipped on the day of Mahashivaratri.
Devotees offer prayers to their presiding deity in all the temples including Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik.
