Una is a district of Himachal Pradesh that is situated in the Southwestern part. Kangra district was reorganized into three districts namely Una, Hamirpur and Kangra on 1 September 1972 by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. Famous places of Una include Chintpuri Mata Mandir, Dera Baba Bad Bhag Singh, Dera Baba Rudra, Jogi Panga, Dharamshala Mahant, Dhyunsar Mahadev Temple, Talmehra, Shivbari Temple, Gagret and Mini Secretariat. Due to its close proximity to the state of Punjab, Una district has developed a lot in the industrial sector.
Mehatpur, Gagret, Tahliwal, and Amb areas are the main industrial centers of Una. On January 11, 1991, Una was connected with Nangal (Punjab) railway line with the laying of a broad gauge track, which has now extended up to Daulatpur town. Punjabi, Hindi, and Pahari languages are commonly spoken in the district. Here it is very cold in winter, and the mercury reaches 45 degrees in summer. From July to September the weather is rainy and humid.
Silica sand is found in the ravines and drains of Una. Shiny stones and sand are found in the Palakwa, Haroli, and Bathri ravines of the Una district. It is used in the construction of buildings, bridges, dams, and roads.
