Sanjay Awasthi was born on October 7, 1965, in village and post office Khander, tehsil Arki, district Solan, Himachal Pradesh. He was the President of the District Cricket Association Solan from the year 1996 to 2006 and Councilor of the Municipal Council Solan from the year 2000 to 2005. He is currently the General Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee and a member of the All-India Congress Committee. Sanjay Awasthi was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time in the Assembly by-election on October 30, 2021, and was re-elected to the 14th Legislative Assembly in December 2022. He has a special interest in social service and motivating the youth toward nation-building. He has represented Himachal in the Ranji Trophy National Cricket Championship. In 2023, he was made the Chief Parliamentary Secretary and attached to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, and PWD Ministry for Information and Public Relations Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, and Public Works Department.
