Despite knowing how dangerous tobacco is for health, people do not refrain from using it. In such a situation, World No Tobacco Day is celebrated every year on 31st May to increase awareness about its bad effects on health and to reduce or stop the use of tobacco across the world.

Tobacco not only has a bad effect on the health of those who grow and consume it, but it is also very harmful for the environment, as it promotes deforestation.

Tobacco includes things like Kheni, Gutka and Supari, which are fatal.

Every year on 31st May, “World No Tobacco Day” is celebrated. Its purpose is to spread awareness about the health problems caused by the use of tobacco.

On this day, many global organizations including the United Nations together prepare new strategies on how to reduce the use of tobacco across the world. According to the World Health Organization, every year around 3.5 million hectares of land around the world is used to grow tobacco, due to which trees are cut from 200,000 hectares of forests every year.

The World Health Organization resolved in 1987 to emphasize on controlling the use of tobacco. After this, the first World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on May 31, 1988.

Theme of World No Tobacco Day this year: – “Protecting children from the interference of the tobacco industry.” This theme of WNTD 2024 targets youngsters with harmful tobacco products.

World No Tobacco Day is celebrated to make millions of people around the world aware, who do not hesitate to eat it despite knowing its harm. Its purpose is to remind people about the health related problems associated with the use of tobacco; which includes lung cancer, heart disease, and many other serious diseases!
