National Deworming Day is celebrated twice every year in the country. The first is on 10 February and the second National Deworming Day is celebrated on 10 August. The purpose of celebrating this day is to prevent the increasing worm infection in children and spread awareness about its prevention. Various public awareness campaigns are organized on this day so that more and more people can be made aware about it. It is worth noting that in today’s time millions of children are struggling with this disease, so it is very important to understand about it.

What is the history of National Deworming Day?

The celebration of this day (National Deworming Day in Hindi) was started by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the year 2015. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make the country worm free. Worm disease affects the intestines of children, due to which mental disorders can arise in children. This disease is no less than a big threat to both humans and animals. Keeping this in mind, every year since 2015, medicines are given to children in all Anganwadis and schools of the country on this day. People are made aware through National Deworming Day so that people can understand the seriousness of this disease and the overall health of children can be improved.

Why is National Deworming Day celebrated?

Worm infection is a common problem that affects children aged 1 to 19 years. Due to worm infection, a person is likely to have anemia, diarrhea, stomach pain, malnutrition and mental development problems. In such a situation, National Deworming Day is an important day for the health of children. On this day, a campaign is run to give deworming medicine to children, which helps in protecting them from worm infection.

National Deworming Day is celebrated twice a year in India on 10 February and 10 August. It aims to deworm children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 years to prevent parasitic worm infections. The government provides Albendazole tablets through schools and Anganwadi centres to improve the health, nutrition and overall well-being of children.

On National Deworming Day, many such campaigns are run in which the family is encouraged to take deworming medicine for children. Along with this, posts are made on social media to increase awareness about worm infection and on this day a safe and effective deworming medicine called Albendazole is given to children by the Health Department.
