Pinarayi Vijayan was born on 24 May 1945 in a very poor Hindu family in Kannur district of Kerala. His interest in politics started increasing since college days, and he used to be a student leader. This is how he officially entered politics in the year 1964. When he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist), he rose rapidly through the ranks of the party. He was elected to serve as the Secretary of the CPI(M) State Committee of Kerala in 1998, and did so until 2015, when he was appointed the Chief Minister of Kerala. Pinarayi Vijayan won the Kerala Legislative Assembly elections five times in 1970, 1977, 1991, 1996 and 2016 from three different constituencies.
In 1968 he was elected to the Kannur District Committee of CPI(M). 1970 Vijayan won his first Kerala assembly election from Koothuparamba constituency by defeating Thayath Raghavan of PSP. In 1972 he became a member of Kannur district secretariat for CPI(M). In 1977 he defeated Abdulkadir of RSP for the second time in elections from Kuthuparamba. In 1991 he won elections from Kuthuparamba for the third time defeating P Ramakrishnan of INC. Elected as Chief Minister of Kerala in 2016 by defeating Mambaram Divakaran of INC in Dharmadam constituency Went. He has become one of the most liked and powerful leaders in the state throughout his time as Chief Minister. Answer- At present, in 2021, there is a Left Democratic Front (LDF) coalition government in Kerala. Which is a coalition of left parties, which includes a total of 12 political parties. And Pinarayi Vijayan was elected as the leader of LDF, so currently the Chief Minister of Kerala is Pinarayi Vijayan.
