Bharatiya Janata Party has made Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a prominent politician of Rajasthan, its candidate from Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency. Gajendra Shekhawat was born in a Rajput family in Mehroli village in Sikar district of Rajasthan. He has won with record margin in the general elections of 2014 and 2019.
Gajendra Shekhawat is considered among the leaders close to Prime Minister Modi. In 2019, the Modi government had given Gajendra the responsibility of the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. Earlier in 2017, in the first term of the Modi government, Gajendra was given the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Shekhawat started his political career as a student leader in 1992. He was then elected as the President of the Students Union in JNVU University. Before entering electoral politics, Shekhawat held several positions in various forums and organizations. He has also been co-convenor of Swadeshi Jagran Manch, the economic wing of Sangh Parivar and general secretary of Seema Jan Kalyan Samiti.
