January 26th is celebrated in India because on this day in 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect, and India became a sovereign republic. Republic Day reminds us of the importance of our Constitution, democracy, and fundamental rights.
This morning, a parade was held on Rajpath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu congratulated all countrymen on the 77th Republic Day. European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen participated in today’s national ceremony as chief guests.
