This day is also known as the birth anniversary of the second Prime Minister of the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri. But if people are asked questions about the importance of this day from the point of view of Panchayati Raj, then many people will not have any idea about it. Let’s know about the significance of this historical day from the Panchayati Raj point view.

Significance of 2nd October in Panchayati Raj History

People across the country see 2nd October as Gandhi Jayanti. But this day is not limited to Gandhi Jayanti only. This day is known as an important day in the history of the country. The reason for this is the establishment of Panchayati Raj. Panchayati Raj was established for the first time in the country on 2nd October 1959 for the smooth operation of the governance system in the rural areas of the country. And Rajasthan became the witness of this historical moment. The Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru implemented the Panchayati Raj system on this day in Bagdhari village of Nagaur district of Rajasthan. In such situation, Rajasthan became the first state in modern India to implement the Panchayati Raj system. One of the reasons behind the implementation of Panchayati Raj system on the day of 2nd October was also that Mahatma Gandhi believed that the foundation of the political structure of the country should be Panchayati Raj, so that the governance system in every village of the country could be strengthened as well. Due to this, when Jawaharlal Nehru decided to implement Panchayati Raj for the first time, he chose Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday for this work. After this, on 24th April 1993, the Panchayati Raj Act was passed for the first time in the country.
